Michael Duarte, a popular food content creator known online as “FoodwithBearHands,” has died following a car crash in Texas over the weekend. He was 34. Authorities say the crash is being investigated as a possible suicide. Duarte was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragedy occurred just three days after Duarte and his wife, Jessica, celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary. According to police, Duarte had sent his wife a goodbye message shortly before the crash, prompting the current investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Duarte was widely known across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube, where he shared grilling and barbecue recipes, amassing more than two million followers. For many, however, he was known first as a husband, a father, a brother, and a loyal friend.
“The world may know him as ‘FoodwithBearHands,’ but to us, he was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend,” his family said in a statement shared through social media and a GoFundMe page launched to support his wife and young daughter.
His talent agency also paid tribute, remembering Duarte as a warm and generous presence who found joy in cooking for others. His social media bio reflected that mission, stating that his purpose was “to share food with people who need it most.”
Duarte’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, fellow creators, and the food community, many of whom described him as uplifting, authentic, and deeply kind.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate their loss and will share service details at a later date.
