Authorities in Cherokee County are continuing the search for a missing man who disappeared Sunday after leaving his home with his dog.
James “Greg” Powell
Canton Police said 61-year-old James “Greg” Powell was last seen leaving his residence at 9:09 a.m. on Sunday. His vehicle was later located at the River Green Tennis Courts, located at 111 Raquet Club Drive, where investigators have been coordinating search efforts.
Powell’s dog, Ally, who left home with him, was found safely several days after he went missing, according to an update shared by the National Center for Missing and Endangered, Inc. Officials say the discovery of the dog has renewed hope and also narrowed the search focus to surrounding neighborhoods, trails, and wooded areas.
Powell was last seen wearing a large blue jacket and blue sweatpants.
Search teams, including local police, volunteers, and tracking units, continue to canvass the area. Drones and K-9 units have also been deployed.
Authorities are urging residents in the Canton and River Green communities to check home security footage, outbuildings, porches, and wooded paths.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Cherokee 911 or the Canton Police Department at 770-720-4883.
Officials say the search remains active, and there is concern for Powell’s well-being due to the length of time he has been missing
