The Chatham County Police Department and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a man and woman were found dead Friday afternoon. Authorities have not yet released the names of the individuals pending notification of next of kin.
According to officials, officers responded to a residence in Chatham County after receiving a call for a welfare check. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered both individuals inside the home with fatal injuries. Investigators believe the incident was domestic in nature and that no ongoing threat exists to the community.
Detectives from both agencies are working jointly to determine the timeline leading up to the deaths. Crime scene investigators processed the residence throughout the afternoon and evening, and the bodies have been transported to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy and official cause-of-death determinations.
Authorities say more information will be released once family members have been notified and the investigation progresses. The case remains active.
