Authorities confirmed that at least one person died as a result of the crash. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

Because of the severity of the incident and the location on the bridge, medical airlift transport was requested, but aircraft were unable to respond due to conditions. Ground emergency crews continued to treat and transport the injured.

The bridge is expected to remain closed in both directions for an extended period of time to allow investigators to document the scene and clear debris. Officials emphasized that the closure could last for several hours and urged drivers to plan alternate routes.

“The Hood Canal Bridge is closed due to a motor vehicle crash. The bridge will be closed for an extended period of time and I have no estimate on when it may reopen,” Suquamish Police Chief shared in a public update. “SPD is not directly involved; we are monitoring information from dispatch. Plan accordingly.”

Drivers traveling between Kitsap and Jefferson counties face limited detour options, and significant delays are expected into the early morning hours. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation

Further details regarding the cause of the crash and the condition of the other individuals involved have not yet been released. The collision remains under active investigation.
