A teenager is dead and another individual is in custody following a fatal shooting Thursday night in Athens. The incident occurred on Davis Street, where Athens-Clarke County Police were called just after reports of gunfire.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement, the shooting stemmed from an argument during a dice game involving several individuals. The dispute escalated, resulting in one teenager being shot. Responding officers and emergency medical personnel confirmed that the victim died at the scene.
Police have detained a suspect, though officials have not yet released the suspect’s name or age. Investigators say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
