While police were investigating, Lopez said someone began shooting from inside the home. The officers took cover and called for the SWAT team.

The SWAT team arrived to find someone lying in the doorway who had been shot several times, Lopez said. As they tried to move the person to safety, Lopez said the suspect shot at them 20-25 times with an AR rifle. One officer returned fire and shot the suspect in the shoulder, Lopez said.

As of Sunday morning, the suspect was alive and in stable condition. The victim in the doorway died from the gunshot wounds. No officers were injured.

The officer who fired the shots was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure, Lopez said.

As is the case in all officer involved shootings, the Texas Rangers are investigating.
