BREAKING UPDATE — Teen Fatally Shot in Crown Heights:
A 16-year-old boy from The Bronx was shot and killed in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood late Sunday night, according to the New York City Police Department.
Officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to reports of gunfire near Rochester Avenue and Sterling Place, where they found the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders and transport to a nearby hospital, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Detectives believe the teen had been visiting friends in the area when an argument escalated into violence. Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots before seeing several people flee the scene. So far, no arrests have been made, and police have not identified any suspects.
The NYPD’s Brooklyn North Homicide Squad is leading the investigation, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings and interviewing witnesses.
Community members and anti-violence advocates have already expressed heartbreak and outrage over the killing, calling for an end to the rising number of shootings involving youth.
