The Claflin University community is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Savion Brown, a bright and talented student from Orangeburg, South Carolina. Savion was a senior computer science major whose dedication to his studies, leadership, and spirit of kindness made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His untimely passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his classmates, professors, and friends across the Claflin family.

Savion was more than just a student—he was a shining example of the values that define Claflin University. His curiosity, determination, and commitment to excellence reflected his passion for learning and his desire to make a difference in the world. Those who had the privilege of working alongside him remember his intellect, his sense of humor, and the genuine care he showed toward others. Savion’s presence on campus was marked by his quiet confidence, compassion, and the respect he extended to everyone he encountered.
As we mourn this tremendous loss, we join Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack and the entire Claflin University community in extending our deepest sympathies to Savion’s family and loved ones. May God’s grace and peace surround them during this time of heartbreak. The University encourages all students and staff who are grieving to seek comfort and support through TimelyCare, a free and confidential counseling service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, grief counselors will be present on campus beginning Monday, October 27, at 9 a.m., at The James and Dorothy Z. Elmore Chapel, to provide care and a listening ear to those affected by this tragic loss.
Savion’s life was filled with promise, purpose, and potential. Though his time with us was far too short, his legacy of perseverance, kindness, and community will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for his academic achievements but also for the positive energy and encouragement he shared with his peers.
