Police are investigating reports of an emergency at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento on Thursday afternoon, prompting an immediate lockdown of the campus.

Authorities confirmed that the college was placed on a hard lockdown shortly after noon following reports of a person with a gun on or near the property. Students, faculty, and staff were urged to shelter in place, stay away from windows and doors, and await further instructions.
The Sacramento Police Department and Los Rios Police Department responded quickly to the scene, with officers sweeping the area and securing multiple campus buildings. A large police presence, including SWAT units and emergency medical personnel, was observed outside the college.
In a message sent to the campus community, college officials said:
“Cosumnes River College is currently on lockdown due to an incident on campus. Please remain indoors, lock all doors, and stay away from windows until further notice.”
Nearby roads have been closed, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area as the investigation unfolds.
As of Thursday afternoon, no injuries had been confirmed, and police had not released any information. Authorities emphasized that the situation remains active and fluid.
Family members and loved ones of students have been urged not to come to the campus until authorities declare it safe.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
