It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Magdalena Castillo, 75, of Kennewick, who tragically lost her life in a pedestrian-vehicle collision on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2025. According to the Kennewick Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:23 p.m. on Washington Street, just south of Eighth Avenue. Responding officers and bystanders immediately attempted to render life-saving aid, but sadly, Magdalena succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Police reports indicate that Magdalena was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk, in an unlit area, and wearing dark clothing when she was struck by a northbound vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities. Preliminary investigations suggest that alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed were not factors in the collision. The roadway was temporarily closed until approximately 9 p.m. as officers conducted their investigation.
Magdalena was a cherished member of the Kennewick community, remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared with her family, friends, and neighbors. Her sudden and tragic passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew her, serving as a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety for both pedestrians and drivers alike.
The Kennewick Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, emphasizing the need for safe street crossings and awareness of pedestrians, particularly during low-light conditions. Magdalena’s family, friends, and the community are mourning her loss, sharing prayers, memories, and support as they navigate this heartbreaking time.
Magdalena Castillo will be remembered for her generous spirit, her love for those around her, and the lasting impact she had on the lives she touched. Our thoughts and prayers remain with her family during this difficult period.
