It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Mr. Alex Bales, a treasured teacher, director, and friend at Thomas Jefferson High School. His loss has left a deep void in our halls, our hearts, and the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
South High Community School Teacher Megan Dunlevy Passed Away
Mr. Bales was more than a teacher—he was a mentor, a supporter, a listener, and a constant source of encouragement. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, or simply walking the halls, he had an incredible way of making each student feel seen, understood, and truly cared for. He brought passion and life to everything he did, inspiring us to be confident, creative, and kind.
His impact reached far beyond lesson plans and rehearsals. He believed in us when we didn’t believe in ourselves. He reminded us that our voices mattered, that showing up as ourselves was enough, and that we all had something special to offer. His laughter, patience, and unwavering support shaped not only better students, but better people.
We miss him more than words can express. The world feels a little less bright without his presence, but we are forever grateful for the time we had with him. Mr. Bales gave us more than memories—he gave us moments that will last a lifetime.
To honor his life and the legacy he leaves behind, we ask our school and community to join us in wearing green—his favorite color—on Thursday, October 23rd. It’s a small way we can stand together and show just how much he meant to us.
Mr. Bales, thank you. For every lesson, every laugh, every kind word, and every moment you made us feel like we mattered. We will carry your memory with us always—in our classrooms, our performances, and our hearts.
We love you. We miss you. And we will never forget you
