Authorities are investigating a tragic crash that left one man dead Monday night in the parking lot of a convenience store in Abilene.

According to a statement from the Abilene Police Department, the crash happened around 9:00 p.m. at a convenience store located in the 2800 block of East Overland Trail. Police say 31-year-old Jamony Latimore, of Oklahoma, had been parked in the lot for an extended period before suddenly accelerating and slamming into a parked trailer.
When officers and emergency crews arrived, they found Latimore inside the vehicle with fatal injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. No other individuals were involved in the crash.
Investigators are working to determine what caused Latimore’s vehicle to accelerate, with an autopsy planned to help clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have not yet released additional details pending the results of that examination.
The Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division continues to investigate. Officials confirmed that no foul play is suspected at this time, but the cause of the crash remains under review.
