A one-year-old girl who was the subject of a province-wide Amber Alert on Tuesday afternoon has been found safe, but police continue to search for 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, who is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in Brampton earlier in the day.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

The Amber Alert was issued just before 5 p.m. after the child went missing from Brampton. According to Peel Regional Police, the infant was later safely dropped off with family members. Authorities confirmed that while the child is unharmed, the suspect remains on the run and is considered armed and dangerous.

The alert stemmed from a deadly shooting that occurred Tuesday morning in a parking lot near Airport Road and Queen Street East in Brampton. Responding officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have since identified Anthony Deschepper, 38, as the primary suspect in the killing, which police believe to be an intimate partner-related incident.

Deschepper is described as:

38 years old
5’9” tall, 175 lbs
Brown hair, clean shaven
Last seen wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans, and carrying a black crossbody bag
Believed to be driving a 2024 black Nissan Kicks with Quebec licence plate FRV 4520
Police say Deschepper may have fled the Brampton area and is now believed to be in Fort Erie, near Prospect Point and Ridgeway Road.

The Niagara Regional Police Service has issued a shelter-in-place advisory for residents in Fort Erie and Crystal Beach, warning the public to stay indoors while officers assist Peel Regional Police in the search for the suspect.

Authorities urged residents to:

Lock all windows and doors
Avoid answering doors to strangers
Report any suspicious activity immediately
“If you see Anthony Deschepper or the suspect vehicle, do not approach,” police emphasized. “Call 911 right away.”

The ongoing manhunt has drawn a heavy police presence to the Fort Erie area, with tactical units, canine teams, and air support actively searching for Deschepper.

Investigators continue to ask anyone with information or surveillance footage that may assist the investigation to contact Peel Regional Police Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

💔 While the safe recovery of the child has brought relief, the tragic loss of life in Brampton and the ongoing manhunt have left communities across Ontario deeply shaken.
