The Middlebury Police Department is actively seeking help from the public in locating Lia P. Smith, a 21-year-old senior at Middlebury College who was reported missing on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Smith was last seen on campus at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17.

Smith, a senior from California, is pursuing a double major in computer science and statistics. She is also a valued member of the Panther women’s swimming and diving team, known for her dedication both academically and athletically.
In a statement issued to students, faculty, and staff, Middlebury College administrators Vice President for Student Affairs Smita Ruzicka and Associate Vice President of Safety Demitria Kirby confirmed the college’s close collaboration with law enforcement. “We are working closely with the Middlebury Police Department, which is investigating and gathering information at this time. We have been in contact with Lia’s family and friends to offer support and to better understand her recent activities and whereabouts,” they said.
The Middlebury Police Department has made a public appeal for assistance via their official Facebook page. They urge anyone with information about Lia Smith’s whereabouts to contact them immediately at 802-388-3191 or submit an online tip through their website.
