It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Officer Ryan Ebert, who tragically died following a car crash in Apple Valley, Minnesota.
According to Chief Jeff Oxton, Officer Ebert passed away on Saturday morning at Hennepin County Medical Center, succumbing to injuries sustained earlier in the week. Medical staff had previously confirmed that his injuries were not survivable.
Ebert, aged 44, served with the St. Cloud Police Department for 18 years, where he worked in both investigative and patrol roles. He was also employed by the Minnesota State Patrol. Chief Oxton described him as a dedicated public servant who exemplified professionalism and compassion throughout his career.
The crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. near the intersection of northbound Highway 77 and Interstate 35E. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Ebert was driving his 2024 Dodge Ram 1500 when his vehicle collided with a 2018 transit bus before striking a cable barrier. The bus driver, Phillip Alan Wright, 65, of Apple Valley, sustained minor injuries.
While reports indicated the presence of alcohol in Ebert’s system, Chief Oxton clarified that it was only a trace amount—well below the level that could cause impairment.
In a final act of generosity, Officer Ryan Ebert had chosen to donate his organs, continuing his legacy of service even in death. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, integrity, and commitment to protecting his community.
