LA Academy Middle School Shooting: One Injured, Campus Placed on Lockdown

A report of a shooting Thursday afternoon at a South Los Angeles middle school prompted a massive police response from both Los Angeles Police Department officers and campus security personnel.

The incident was reported shortly before noon at Los Angeles Academy Middle School and STEAM Magnet, located near Slauson Avenue and Avalon Boulevard.

Authorities confirmed that a shooting had taken place and that one person was injured. The condition of the victim has not yet been released.

Video captured from AIR7 HD showed a large police presence at the school, with numerous patrol vehicles positioned near the front entrance as officers conducted a room-to-room search to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Parents were seen gathering near the school perimeter, anxiously awaiting updates as the campus remained on lockdown.

LAPD officials said the scene is still active, and investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. It is unclear at this time whether the suspect has been taken into custody or if the incident occurred inside or near the school grounds.

Los Angeles Unified School District officials have not yet issued a formal statement, but students and staff are being accounted for as law enforcement continues its investigation.
