With broken hearts, we share the news of the tragic loss of our dear Silas Timothy Zekveld, our beloved 3.5-year-old son. Silas was called home to be with our great Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 4th, following a devastating farm accident. While we grieve the loss of our precious boy, we take comfort in knowing that Silas is now in the loving arms of Jesus, experiencing the fullness of His love and grace.
Silas Zekveld Farm Accident
Silas was a light in our lives — a sweet, joyful spirit with an infectious smile, an insatiable curiosity, and a heart full of love. He had an extraordinary ability to notice the beauty in the world around him, whether it was the colors of a sunset or the joy of climbing trees. His love for animals was evident in the way he interacted with them, and the bond he shared with his younger brother, Jerry, was nothing short of magical. Silas could make Jerry laugh in a way no one else could, and his deep affection for his family will forever be cherished.
One of Silas’s most endearing qualities was his love for singing, especially his incredible memory. Every Sunday, we would recite Psalm 84 together, and Silas would joyfully declare the last line with so much enthusiasm: “Blessed is the man who trusts in You!” His simple yet profound faith was a reminder to us all of the childlike trust that we are called to have in the Lord.
As we grieve, we also find peace in the covenant promises made to us and to our children. At Silas’s baptism, we prayed that God would comfort him in His grace, and we now take solace in knowing that Silas never had to experience the struggle against sin, for he is now free from its consequences, safe in the arms of Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 brings us comfort, as it proclaims:
“Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We hold on to the hope that one day we will be reunited with Silas in eternity. Until that day, we are forever thankful for the 3.5 years of joy, love, and memories that Silas gifted us.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Providence United Reformed Church, 447 Second Street, Strathroy, Ontario.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 15th at 10:30 am at the church, followed by a luncheon for family and friends. A Family Committal Service will take place at Kirkwall Cemetery at 4:00 pm.
We are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support we’ve received during this heartbreaking time. Thank you for holding Silas and our family in your hearts. May we all hold on to the promise of eternal life, and one day, see our dear Silas again.
With love and gratitude,
The Zekveld Family
