BLACKFOOT, Idaho – The community of Blackfoot is mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old Kaylanee Orr, who died on October 10, 2025, following a fatal accident during a hunting trip with family members in Fremont County.
According to the Fremont County Coroner, Orr died from a gunshot wound sustained during the incident, which occurred Friday evening in a remote area. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and emergency responders worked at the scene for several hours as they investigated the circumstances surrounding her death.
Sheriff Bart Quayle described the situation as “the most tragic nightmare this family—or any family—can imagine.” He added that all signs indicate the shooting was a tragic accident that has left the family devastated. “While we perform our due diligence, pursuing the truth and facts, we’re mindful of the extreme grief this family feels,” Quayle said.
Kaylanee was a graduate of Snake River High School and had recently returned from serving a mission in New Zealand for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her strong faith and kind spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
A Spotfund campaign organized to help cover funeral expenses has already raised more than $20,000 in her memory. The investigation remains ongoing as the community continues to surround Kaylanee’s family with love, prayers, and support.
