Known for his infectious smile, compassionate nature, and lively personality, Gabe’s passing has left an unfillable void in the hearts of his friends, colleagues, and countless patrons who had the privilege of knowing him.

A resident of Austin, Texas, Gabe originally hailed from Highlands, Texas. His journey through life was marked by his passion for connecting with others, his dedication to his work, and his unwavering kindness.

He studied Mass Communication: Public Relations at Texas State University and also attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Public Relations. Gabe’s education reflected his natural talent for communication and his ability to make everyone feel seen and valued.

Professionally, Gabe was a cornerstone of Austin’s vibrant nightlife scene. He served as both manager and bartender at Rain on 4th, one of the city’s most well-known LGBTQ+ establishments, where his warmth and humor made everyone feel welcome.

Before that, he worked as a bartender at Boyz Cellar, where his charm and dedication quickly earned him the admiration of colleagues and customers alike. Gabe’s genuine energy, laughter, and ability to brighten any room made him a favorite among many in the Austin bar community.

Friends and loved ones have been sharing heartfelt tributes, expressing deep sorrow and disbelief at his passing. One friend wrote, “I am in incredible disbelief. This news is heartbreaking. Rest in peace, Gabe Welch. I’m going to miss your smile and your kindness—you were one of a kind.”

Another friend shared, “My heart hurts. I was lucky enough to have known Gabe for many years. He was a very amazing and special person. He was a true friend and so loved. I’ll never forget him. When my grandpa passed away, he called and checked on me every day and would call me Sunshine when I needed it the most.”
