A tragic scene unfolded Tuesday afternoon in Tampa’s Bayshore Gardens neighborhood, where police say a man fatally shot a woman before taking his own life.
According to the Tampa Police Department, officers were called to a residence in the 2400 block of West Texas Avenue around 1 p.m. for reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they discovered the bodies of a man and a woman inside the home.
Detectives believe 49-year-old Dimitrios Charalambakis shot 24-year-old Nashelie Saladini Rivera before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators said the two appeared to have been in a relationship.
Police immediately secured the area, taping off sections of Texas Avenue as forensic units processed the scene and gathered evidence from inside and around the home.
“This appears to be a tragic case of domestic violence that resulted in the loss of two lives,” a Tampa Police spokesperson said. “Our detectives are continuing to investigate the events that led up to this incident.”
Rivera, originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico, was raised in Hartford, Connecticut, and had recently been living in the Tampa area. Family and friends are planning a balloon release to celebrate her life, which would have marked her 25th birthday on October 24, 2025.
Police have not released further details about what may have led to the shooting, but they confirmed that no other individuals were injured and there is no ongoing threat to the community. GoFundMe
The investigation remains active as detectives work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
