Nicholas Chew of Clovis, California, and a Political Science and Philosophy Double Major student at the University of California, Los Angeles passed away tragically. Nicholas David Chew who was declared missing has been found dead.
As a Political Science major at UCLA, he was passionate about civic engagement and fostering healthy dialogue across different perspectives. He believe that communication, problem-solving, and teamwork are essential skills for any leader or activist, and he strived to bring these qualities to every community he was part of.
He was the President and Founder of the Coffee Club at UCLA. He was NSTP New Student Advisor and BridgeUCLA President. He worked as a barista at Starbucks from July 2021 to September 2023. While at Starbucks, he strived to create meaningful connections with customers and promote the culture, value, and mission of the company.
He was also the founder and president of BridgeUSA’s Buchanan Chapter, a nonprofit organization that seeks to fight the polarization in politics and the national divide by providing a safe place for bipartisan discussion. Through the club, he organized and facilitated several events and activities that engage students in respectful and empathetic dialogue, applying skills of active listening, assertive expression, and critical thinking. He was currently the president of UCLA’s BridgeUSA chapter.
Currently, he was working as an NSA Gold through UCLA’s New Student and Transition Program. On a team of 100 student staff responsible for transitioning 10,500 new students and 3,000 family members of new students to UCLA. Trained as a peer academic advisor to help students with academic requirements, college/school rules and regulations, scholarship requirements, degree requirements, and graduate and professional school goals.
