An 18-year-old Elgin man was killed early Tuesday morning in what police describe as an isolated shooting.
The victim, identified as Jowell Wallace, 18, was found dead inside a residence on the 100 block of Jefferson Cove after officers with the Elgin Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 3:30 a.m.
Authorities have arrested Jayden Sherrod, 17, who has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Wallace’s death. Sherrod was booked into the Bastrop County Jail following the incident.
Police confirmed that Wallace and Sherrod were acquaintances, though the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. Officials emphasized that the case is believed to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the community.
This marks the second homicide in Elgin in 2025. Earlier this year, Charles and Sirley Cunningham were killed in a February 11 murder-suicide.
