Michael Fontenot – Eunice Man Dies in St. Landry Parish Bicycle Accident

EUNICE, La. — The Eunice community is mourning the loss of Michael Fontenot, 54, who tragically died in a bicycle accident on La. 190 near Eastpark Drive in St. Landry Parish. The fatal crash occurred just before 8 p.m. when Fontenot, traveling east on the left shoulder of La. 190, made a U-turn into the left lane and was struck by a 2020 Acura TLX.

Authorities confirmed that Fontenot sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acura was properly restrained and not injured. Preliminary investigation shows no signs of impairment from the driver, who voluntarily provided a breath sample that tested negative for alcohol. A toxicology sample was collected from Fontenot as part of the ongoing investigation.

Fontenot’s passing is a tragic reminder of the dangers bicyclists face on the road and the importance of safety precautions. Friends, family, and neighbors are grieving his sudden loss and remembering him as a valued member of the Eunice community.
