A quiet Southeast Portland neighborhood is reeling after three people were found dead in what police believe to be a murder-suicide inside a home Saturday evening.
Around 5 p.m., officers with the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) responded to reports of a suicide at a residence in the 7000 block of Southeast 64th Avenue, near Flavel Street in the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood.
When officers entered the home, they discovered the bodies of one man and two women, all with gunshot wounds. Police said the three were connected in some way, though details about their relationship have not been released.
No Ongoing Threat
PPB officers quickly secured the area, with multiple units surrounding the home. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
“This is an incredibly tragic situation,” said PPB Chief Bob Day, who addressed reporters at the scene. “It saddens us deeply when we arrive too late to maybe intervene. Tonight, we’re saddened for the families and the loss. We’re saddened for this community.”
Neighbors Shaken
The discovery has left residents of the neighborhood in shock.
“Our hearts are obviously going to go out to everybody who’s going to be affected by this,” said neighbor Karen Montez. “Crime like this in the neighborhood — it’s not like we need more of that. We need less.”
