Our beautiful, generous, and artistic Mom, Clarisse “Clare” Post, passed away peacefully early in the morning on August 30th, at the age of 96.
Caring for our mother in her final days was both a privilege and a sacred gift. On Tuesday night, I left work and headed to Buffalo for my caregiving shift. From the moment I arrived, I could sense something had changed. The following morning, a hospice nurse confirmed what our hearts already feared.
By Wednesday morning, our sisters, our niece, and my childhood best friend Mary were all gathered at our childhood home. Mom’s lifelong teacher friends also came to visit, along with her devoted caregivers, Barb and Christie. We shared precious moments, took photos while she was still alert, and surrounded her with love. After two sleepless nights of caring for her, setting alarms to reposition her and give morphine for comfort, Penne noticed at 2:53 a.m. that Mom’s gentle breathing had stopped.
Clare lived a long, rich life full of creativity, generosity, and love. She was deeply devoted to her family, friends, and her students. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, artistry, and wisdom that will live on in all of us.
Mom now joins our dad, Robert, her sister Corinne, her brother Dean, our aunts Joanne, Kathy, Victoria, and our uncle Maynard in eternal rest.
We love you, Mom. We will miss you deeply, but we take comfort knowing you are reunited with those you love and watching over us always.
