Authorities have confirmed that Matthew Brian Kidd, 35, is now in custody after being wanted in connection with two separate homicides in Rankin County and the city of Brandon.
Kidd was arrested Thursday night at the Rodeway Inn in Brandon through a joint operation involving the Brandon Police Department and Rankin County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators say cooperation between the agencies was critical in apprehending the suspect.
Kidd is now charged with murder in the death of William Earl Morris in Rankin County and murder in the death of Christian Storey, 33, who was found shot to death Thursday evening inside a residence on Gayden Street in Brandon.
Authorities had previously identified Kidd as a person of interest in Morris’ case but said evidence was insufficient to charge him until Thursday, when detectives obtained an arrest warrant through Rankin County Court.
Brandon Police Chief Joseph French called Storey’s killing “a tragic and violent act,” and earlier warned the public not to approach Kidd, who was considered armed and dangerous before his arrest.
The motives for both killings remain under investigation. Local, state, and federal authorities continue to work the cases, and officials say updates will be released as more information becomes available.
