A final letter posted online revealed Robin Westman’s deep anguish, describing how he felt “corrupted by this world” and consumed by hopelessness. In the message, he expressed disdain for life and declared that death was his only escape. Investigators believe these words were written in the hours before he carried out a devastating act of violence at Annunciation Church on the morning of August 27, 2025.

Armed and dressed in black, the 23-year-old positioned himself outside the sanctuary and began shooting through the stained-glass windows into a congregation of children, teachers, and families attending a school Mass. Panic erupted inside as dozens of rounds shattered the air, cutting short what was meant to be a moment of prayer and unity.
By the time the gunfire ended, two students had lost their lives and 17 others were wounded, including 14 children. Two of the young victims remain in critical condition as doctors work tirelessly to save them.Law enforcement responded within minutes and quickly contained the scene, but Westman turned a gun on himself before he could be apprehended.
Authorities are now reviewing his writings and digital history to understand the path that led him to such a calculated act of destruction. The attack has left the community shattered. Vigils are being organized in remembrance of the two young lives lost, and grief counselors have been made available for students and parishioners struggling to cope with the trauma.
Religious and civic leaders have urged compassion, calling for solidarity in the face of such pain. While investigators continue searching for answers, families and neighbors are left clinging to one another, mourning the children taken too soon, and praying for the recovery of those still fighting to heal.
