Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting at a Bluff Road apartment complex and confirmed that two suspects are now facing murder charges.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said 19-year-old JoKayne Carter was killed Friday afternoon after being shot at 1051 Southern Drive, an apartment complex known as The Roost.
Just 24 hours later, deputies arrested two suspects in connection with Carter’s death. Tyron Shelley, 19, was taken into custody at his home in Earlewood, where investigators also recovered a stolen firearm from Florence County. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Ta’John Goodwin turned himself in to authorities at sheriff’s headquarters with the assistance of family members.
Both Shelley and Goodwin have been charged with murder.
The sheriff’s office said the shooting happened around noon Friday. Deputies found Carter at the scene with a gunshot wound. He later died from his injuries, according to the Richland County Coroner’s Office.
Officials are still investigating a possible motive.
Sheriff Leon Lott noted that this marks the 14th murder investigation in Richland County this year, adding that each one has resulted in arrests.
