The Tremonton-Garland Police Department has confirmed the identities of the two officers who were sadly shot and killed while on duty as Sergeant Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada.

Both Lee and Estrada were engaged in a confrontation with a suspect on August 17 after responding to calls regarding a domestic disturbance. During this incident, the suspect emerged from the residence and opened fire, fatally wounding both officers.
A procession to honor Sergeant Sorensen and Officer Estrada is scheduled for August 18, commencing at 4 p.m. The procession will begin at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Taylorsville and proceed northward to Tremonton. This procession will transport both Sorensen and Estrada to the Rudd Funeral Home in Garland and the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, respectively.
Members of the community are encouraged to line the route of the procession as a demonstration of support and respect for the fallen officers and their families.
In addition to the procession, Utah Governor Spencer Cox has mandated that flags across the state be flown at half-staff until funeral services are conducted for Sergeant Sorensen and Officer Estrada.
“We owe these heroes a debt that can never be repaid,” Cox stated. “As we mourn, let us also reaffirm our commitment to supporting the men and women of law enforcement who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods. May God bless the families of Sorensen and Estrada, and all those who are grieving during this time of loss.”
A deputy from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, whose identity has not been disclosed, along with his service dog, were also injured by gunfire during the incident. Officials have confirmed that the deputy has been released from the hospital and is recovering in “fair” condition. The service dog is currently being cared for at a veterinary clinic as a precaution.
The suspect, identified as Ryan Michael Bate, 33, has been arrested and is facing two counts of capital aggravated murder, one count of first-degree felony attempted aggravated murder, and one count of misdemeanor assault.
