Emergency services were called to Harbour Street just before 9:45 a.m., where they found the pair, both believed to be in their 40s, lying on the roadway. Despite the efforts of bystanders who administered CPR, both victims were pronounced dead before paramedics could arrive.
The circumstances surrounding the fall are still under investigation. NSW Police have established a crime scene and are appealing to the public for information.
“Police are urging anyone with information about the matter—or who was in the area at the time with any available dashcam or mobile phone footage—to contact Day Street Police Station or Crime Stoppers,” a police spokesperson said.
The incident caused significant traffic disruptions throughout the city. Two southbound lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge remain closed, with traffic diverted to the Anzac Bridge. According to LiveTraffic NSW, motorists can detour via Grosvenor Street, Bridge Street, and Macquarie Street for access to the Eastern Suburbs and Sydney Airport.
