Batavia Fatal Shooting: SWAT Standoff at Apartment Complex Leaves Several Injured

A heavy police and fire response is underway in Batavia following a standoff with an armed, suicidal individual inside an apartment on the 1200 block of East Wilson Street Saturday evening.

According to police radio traffic, officers responded to reports of a person armed with a gun and possibly holding children inside the apartment. Shots were fired shortly after police arrived, and at least one hostage has since been rescued.

Multiple ambulances have been requested to the scene, along with a second fire engine. Authorities confirmed that several people have been shot, though the number of victims and their conditions remain unclear at this time.

Batavia Police, Illinois Police activity in the 1200 block of E. Wilson St. Citizens are encouraged to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.

Witnesses reported seeing numerous emergency vehicles rushing to the area, including a Kane County Sheriff’s command center truck. Aurora police are also assisting Batavia police and fire units at the scene.

SWAT officers are continuing to negotiate with the suspect, while fire and EMS crews are staging nearby.

Police have urged the public to avoid East Wilson Street near the scene as the situation remains active and dangerous.
