GORMAN, Calif. (KABC) — A brush fire burning in the Gorman area of northern Los Angeles County has triggered evacuation warnings after scorching nearly 400 acres Thursday morning.
The King Fire broke out just after 1 a.m. and quickly grew to 394 acres along the 5 Freeway between Gorman and Pyramid Lake, according to the Angeles National Forest. It is 5% contained.
Firefighters were forced to shut down both sides of the freeway for a time as flames got dangerously close to the roadway. All lanes have since reopened but drivers are advised to exercise caution in the area.
Evacuation warnings are in place for people living in Hungry Valley, in the area east of Caswell.
A shelter in place order is also in effect for areas east of the 5 Freeway and south of Highway 138.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
