New Video Angle Fuels Scrutiny of ICE Shooting as Neighbors Challenge Official Account

A newly released video recorded by neighbors has intensified scrutiny of the fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis, adding detail to the sequence of events and raising fresh questions about how the encounter unfolded. The footage, shared publicly this week, is being cited by community members and advocates as contradicting key elements of the federal government’s account.

According to those who have reviewed the video, it shows Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, engaged in what appears to be a routine, non-confrontational activity moments before the shooting. Neighbors say she had just dropped someone off and was attempting to leave the area. As she prepared to pull away, the vehicle pauses to allow another car to pass. Witnesses say she then gestured for the occupants of a nearby vehicle—later identified as federal agents—to proceed ahead of her.

Within seconds, however, the situation escalates. The video appears to show agents exiting their vehicle and moving rapidly toward Good’s car, shouting commands. Observers say the sudden approach may have caused confusion and panic. As Good attempted to drive away, an ICE officer fired shots, fatally wounding her.

Federal officials have described the shooting as an act of self-defense, asserting that the vehicle posed a threat to officers. Community members and civil-rights advocates dispute that characterization, arguing the new footage shows a rapidly escalating encounter initiated by agents rather than an imminent attack.

The video has renewed calls for:

Public release of all body-camera and surveillance footage

An independent investigation not solely led by federal authorities

Clear explanations of use-of-force decisions in vehicle-related encounters

As protests and vigils continue, the newly surfaced footage has become a focal point in the broader national debate over federal immigration enforcement, accountability, and when lethal force is justified. Investigations into the shooting remain ongoing, and officials have not yet issued a formal response specifically addressing the newly released video.
