Columbus police have identified the victim killed in a hit-and-run in North Linden, and one person is now in custody.
According to a spokesperson for the Columbus Division of Police, the victim has been identified as Anthony Farmer. Farmer was crossing Cleveland Avenue from Eddystone Avenue on Jan. 5 at approximately 10:15 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound vehicle that fled the scene.
Emergency personnel pronounced Farmer dead at the scene. Police urged anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run to come forward and provide information to assist the investigation.
Authorities confirmed that the “at-fault driver” later turned himself in at his attorney’s office and has been interviewed by the Accident Investigation Unit. The driver’s name has not been released, and charges are pending.
The intersection along Cleveland Avenue has long been a concern for North Linden residents. The City of Columbus is implementing the Walk Safe on Cleveland Avenue initiative to improve pedestrian safety, noting that more people are struck by vehicles on this corridor than most other city streets. While the project plans to add 14 enhanced crosswalks throughout the corridor, there is currently no crosswalk at Cleveland and Eddystone, where the fatal collision occurred.
The community mourns the loss of Anthony Farmer and asks that residents keep his family and friends in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
