The St. Charles County community is once again rallying together to support the Karrenbrock family, who are facing an unimaginable tragedy. Just over a year after the devastating loss of their 9-year-old daughter, Penelope Kate — lovingly known as “PK” — the family is now mourning the sudden passing of Doug Karrenbrock, the beloved husband and father.

In late 2024, the Karrenbrocks became the focal point of an outpouring of love and support as PK bravely fought a nine-month battle with cancer. Her journey, followed by nearly 12,000 people on social media, was one of strength, grace, and incredible courage. As Doug and Megan Karrenbrock navigated the heartbreak of losing their daughter, they were embraced by a community that stood by them every step of the way. PK’s passing left a void not only in their hearts but also in the St. Charles County area, where she had touched so many lives with her vibrant spirit and love of life.
As the Karrenbrocks began to heal from the loss of their daughter, a new tragedy struck. Doug, known for his larger-than-life personality and his devotion to his family, was suddenly struck by a medical condition. At the beginning of this year, friends and neighbors gathered for a candlelight vigil at St. Joseph Hospital West, hoping and praying for a miracle. However, on Tuesday evening, Megan shared the heartbreaking news that Doug had passed away. The community, once again, was left in shock and sorrow.
Doug Karrenbrock was more than just a father and husband. He was a dedicated and active member of the St. Charles County community, deeply involved in the lives of those around him. He was known for his selflessness, always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether he was coaching baseball, supporting local causes, or simply being a neighbor, Doug’s presence was a constant source of strength and encouragement. He was the kind of person who made others feel seen and valued, always giving more than he took.
Desiree Walker, the owner of Walker Family Farms in Foristell, echoed the sentiments of many when she said, “They are the supporters of everybody else’s cause.” The Karrenbrock family had always been the ones to show up for others in their time of need, and now, the community is returning that support in full force. From people stopping to pray outside the family home to organizing support chains online, the outpouring of love has been overwhelming.
The Gators Baseball & Fastpitch Academy, with which Doug was closely involved, also shared their condolences, describing Doug as “larger than life” and a man who would do anything for those around him. The organization expressed deep sorrow, acknowledging that Doug’s absence will leave a lasting impact on all who knew him. “He is now reunited in Heaven with his daughter PK,” they wrote.
Janna Christina, a friend of the family, reflected on Doug’s legacy as a family man and community pillar. “Doug was the definition of a family man,” she wrote. “Whether he was coaching baseball, supporting those around him, or being the kind of farm neighbor everyone was lucky to have, he will be missed but never forgotten.”
As the Karrenbrock family faces this unimaginable second loss, the community’s support is a testament to Doug and Megan’s strength, love, and the indelible mark they have left on the hearts of everyone they’ve touched. The love and compassion shown during this difficult time is a reflection of the Karrenbrocks’ own kindness and generosity.
