GREER, S.C. — Greer police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early overnight near downtown Greer, marking the city’s first homicide of the year.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 2:15 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire near the train tracks adjacent to Ollie’s Tavern. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite emergency response efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jonathan Kraemer, 25, of Lyman, South Carolina.
According to Greer Police Department officials, one individual has been detained in connection with the shooting. Investigators have not released further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident or whether charges have been filed, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Ollie’s Tavern confirmed that no employees or patrons inside the establishment were injured during the incident. In a statement, the business said staff members acted quickly after hearing gunfire nearby.
“We called 911 last night after hearing a shooting near the train tracks. We then assisted in apprehending the suspect,” the statement read. “We are deeply saddened, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and his family.”
Police continue to process the scene and review evidence, including witness statements and any available surveillance footage. Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the Greer Police Department or submit tips anonymously.
