Authorities say an argument involving Tyrone Stingley escalated at the residence. Stingley reportedly left the home, drove a short distance away, exited the vehicle, and fired approximately 29 rounds from an AR-style firearm toward the residence. During the shooting, a law enforcement officer’s wife was struck in the side.
Stingley and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. Law enforcement agencies, including the Leake County Sheriff’s Office, Scott County SWAT, and Newton County SRT, later surrounded a residence in Walnut Grove. After approximately 15 minutes, Stingley and a woman identified as his wife or possible girlfriend surrendered without incident.
Early reports indicate Stingley may be related to the injured woman. She was transported to a Jackson Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Tyrone Stingley, 37, and Lynette Martin, 40, were booked into the Leake County Jail at approximately 2:20 a.m. They are currently being held pending further action by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
