Board Vice President Tina Fiore said an emergency meeting was held with band students and parents before the public announcement to ensure they had space and support to process the loss.

“Our kids just need love and space to grieve,” Fiore said. “We are holding Mr. Lorkovic’s family in our hearts right now.”

Colleagues described Lorkovic as energetic, optimistic, and service-minded, noting that he brought enthusiasm and care into every rehearsal and classroom interaction. Despite being new to the district, officials said he was already doing a “phenomenal job” building relationships with students and strengthening the band program.

To support students and staff during this difficult time, the high school will be open for counseling and support services on Friday, January 2, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Door 1). Additional counseling services will also be available when students return to school on Monday, January 5.

The community will have an opportunity to come together to honor Mr. Lorkovic’s life at a vigil scheduled for Saturday, January 3, at 5:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. A small vigil will also be held prior to the home basketball game that evening. All are welcome to attend.

As the Northridge community mourns, students, parents, and staff are being encouraged to keep the Lorkovic family in their thoughts and prayers and to lean on one another as they grieve together. Jacob Lorkovic is remembered not only as an educator and musician, but as a compassionate presence whose love for music and students will continue to resonate throughout the school he served.
