With great sadness, we gather to honor the memory of Darren McKay from Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador, whose departure has created a significant absence in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Darren was not only a mine operator at Tacora Resources and Nuna Logistics; he was also a committed spouse to Lori Ann McKay, a cherished relative, a steadfast friend, and a talented musician whose influence will endure for years ahead.
I have had the honor of collaborating with many individuals throughout my career, yet the time spent with Darren proved to be among the most difficult—and yet, thanks to him, incredibly fulfilling as well. Darren possessed an extraordinary talent for alleviating the struggles of those in his company. His support, laughter, and the insights he imparted made even the toughest of days bearable. He had a unique knack for transforming challenging experiences into treasured memories, and his generous nature made a lasting impact on everyone he crossed paths with.
Outside of his professional role, Darren’s impact reached far and wide throughout everyday life. As a drummer and lifelong band member, he infused every performance with joy, rhythm, and a unique presence. He was not merely a percussionist; he was an extraordinary artist who encouraged others to pursue their own musical abilities. I will always be thankful to Darren for inspiring me to play music, sing, and embrace the talents that God bestowed upon me. The many hours we shared in ministry, moving from one church to another, will be forever held close in my heart. We laughed until we were breathless, prayed in unison, and stood by one another through life’s challenges.
Darren’s compassion encompassed even the smallest, light-hearted moments that now elicit both tears and smiles—such as the memorable gift of a gas can for my boat, large enough to fill every vessel at the dock! These little gestures highlight the extent of his kindness, his thoughtfulness, and his playful nature.
To Lori Ann, Peter, Daniel, and Christian, please remember that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Darren’s mission on this planet is fulfilled, yet his legacy of love, support, and joy will forever remain. Please extend our greetings to mom in heaven, dear cousin, and be assured that until we reunite, your laughter, wisdom, and music will keep on inspiring us every single day.
