Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man in Delmar on December 19.
According to authorities, around 6:30 p.m., a Toyota Tundra was traveling westbound on Bacons Road, just west of Bi State Boulevard, when the truck left the north edge of the roadway while approaching a left-hand curve. The vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned multiple times.
The driver, identified as Tyler Wright of Delmar, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have withheld additional details until Wright’s family has been notified.
Bacons Road was closed for roughly seven hours while Delaware State Police conducted a thorough investigation. Utility crews were also on-site to replace the damaged pole.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Police continue to gather information about the circumstances leading to the crash, including roadway conditions and vehicle factors.
The tragic incident marks another reminder of the dangers of driving without proper restraints and the risks posed when vehicles leave the roadway. Community members are mourning the loss of Wright, who leaves behind friends and family in Delmar.
