Alta Veasley Obituary News: Southwest Houston Woman Fatally Stabbed by Son, Gerren Crosson in Custody

A man is in custody and facing a murder charge after authorities say he fatally stabbed his mother inside a Southwest Houston home early Wednesday morning.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers were called to a residence on Harristown Drive, near West Orem Drive and Green Colling Park Drive, at approximately 2:30 a.m. following reports of a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found a 71-year-old woman, later identified through court records as Alta Veasley, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Authorities said Veasley was conscious at the scene and told responding officers that her son had stabbed her.

Veasley was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, she later passed away from her injuries.

Police located 34-year-old Gerren Crosson inside the home and initially detained him. After further investigation and consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Crosson was formally charged with murder.

Court records show that Crosson remains in the Harris County Jail as of Thursday evening. His bond has been set at $750,000.

Investigators have not released additional details regarding what led up to the stabbing or whether there were prior incidents at the residence. Authorities stated the case remains under investigation, and more information may be released as it becomes available.
