SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Toledo community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Kaniya Durr, a 20-year-old young woman whose life was tragically cut short Tuesday evening in a devastating three-vehicle crash in Sylvania Township. Her sudden passing has left family, friends, and loved ones struggling to comprehend a loss that came far too soon.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Holland-Sylvania Road. Investigators said a 60-year-old Toledo resident driving an SUV attempted to make a U-turn on the roadway. At the same time, Kaniya was traveling along the road in her sedan and collided with the SUV during the maneuver.
Following the initial impact, Kaniya’s vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway and entered the parking lot of a nearby gas station. In a tragic chain of events, the sedan then re-entered another roadway, where it was struck a second time by a minivan driven by a 41-year-old Toledo resident, according to investigators.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Kaniya Durr was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the injuries she sustained. Authorities confirmed that the other drivers involved were not injured.
Troopers noted that all drivers were wearing seatbelts and that impaired driving is not suspected to have contributed to the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate, emphasizing that the collision appears to have resulted from a sequence of events following the attempted U-turn.
Kaniya’s death has deeply shaken the Toledo area, where she was known as a young woman with her whole life ahead of her. Loved ones remember her as bright, kind, and full of promise—a daughter, a friend, and a cherished presence whose absence leaves an unfillable void.
