A student at Ross S. Sterling High School has died after being injured during a fight inside a classroom on Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.

The Baytown Police Department said officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a high school in the city at approximately 10:42 a.m. KPRC 2 later confirmed the incident occurred during an altercation inside a classroom at Ross S. Sterling High School.

Investigators stated that two male students were involved in the altercation. During the altercation, one student stabbed the other with a pair of scissors. The suspect is 18 years old, and the victim was a minor. Both were students at the school.

Following the incident, the injured student was transported by ambulance and later flown to the Texas Medical Center by Life Flight. The Baytown Fire Department confirmed that weather conditions prevented the helicopter from landing on campus, requiring the student to be taken by ambulance to Baytown Airport before being airlifted. Despite medical efforts, the student later died. Authorities confirmed the death at approximately 3:35 p.m.

The suspect, identified by authorities as Aundre Matthews, was taken into custody and later booked into the Baytown jail on a charge of murder. The victim was identified as Andrew Meismer.

In response to the incident, Ross S. Sterling High School was placed on a temporary hold as a precaution. Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District officials said the parents of both students were notified. The hold was later lifted, and the district emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to students or staff on campus.

The Goose Creek CISD Police Department is leading the investigation. In a statement released around 3:45 p.m., the department confirmed the student’s death and said the other student involved remains in police custody. Officials noted that no additional information would be released due to the ongoing criminal investigation and urged the community to support students, staff, and especially the family of the student who died.

Later, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Goose Creek CISD reiterated that it would not release the names of the students involved, citing the ongoing investigation and confidentiality requirements under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The district noted that public records related to the criminal case may become available through law enforcement and county authorities.
