Lake City Fatal Shooting: Active Shooter, One Injured, One Arrested Outside Lake City Subway

Authorities are investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting in Lake City that left one person injured and led to the swift arrest of a suspect. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the Subway restaurant located in the 1300 block of North Lakeshore Drive, along U.S. Highway 63.

Lake City Police, Lake City Ambulance, and the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately after receiving a report of shots fired. According to Lake City Police Capt. Bill Weist, the victim, was injured outside the restaurant and then entered the Subway seeking help. Emergency medical personnel provided care at the scene before the victim was transported for further treatment. No details about the individual’s condition have been released.

Capt. Weist confirmed that officers located and detained the suspect shortly after the shooting. The individual is now in custody, and authorities emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The shooting prompted a multi-agency response, with members of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) based in Rochester joining the investigation. BCA agents are assisting with evidence processing, witness interviews, and scene documentation as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

Police have not released the identities of either the suspect or the victim, and no information regarding a possible motive has been shared at this time. The Subway remained closed temporarily while investigators examined the area.

Local officials praised the quick responses of first responders and law enforcement, noting that the rapid containment of the incident helped ensure public safety along one of Lake City’s busiest corridors.
