A man and woman have been found dead in what authorities are investigating as an apparent murder–suicide in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The tragic incident occurred on Friday, December 5, 2025, shortly after 9:00 a.m.

According to the Office of the Sheriff, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive individual inside a vehicle located near the 1400 block of Patti Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered two deceased individuals inside a red Honda SUV, both suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

The victims have been identified as 55-year-old James Randolph Smith and 41-year-old Tina Marie (Brown) Spencer, both residents of Rocky Mount. Authorities confirmed that the two were known to each other, and evidence at the scene indicates the incident is being treated as a murder-suicide.

The investigation remains ongoing as deputies await final findings from the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.
