The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) has identified and charged a suspect in connection with Wednesday’s fatal shooting at the MGM National Harbor. 22-year-old Benjamin Williams, of Fort Washington, has been arrested and charged in the killing of 23-year-old Darnell Hawkins Jr., a resident of Washington, D.C.

Shooting Occurred Late Wednesday Morning
The incident took place on December 3, 2025, at approximately 11:55 a.m., when officers responded to reports of gunfire at the MGM National Harbor. Upon arrival, authorities found Hawkins lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Identified Through Investigative Work
PGPD’s Homicide Unit used “various investigative techniques” to identify Williams as the suspected shooter, police said. Detectives quickly secured an arrest warrant, and on Thursday morning, the department’s Fugitive Unit located and took Williams into custody without incident.
Williams is now charged with first- and second-degree murder, along with additional related offenses. He is being held at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
Relationship Between Suspect and Victim Under Investigation
Detectives believe Williams and Hawkins knew each other prior to the shooting, though the motive remains under investigation. Police have not released further details about what may have led to the deadly encounter.
