East Gadsden Standoff: Deputy Injured During Search Warrant; Suspect in Custody, Community Praises First Responders

This morning in East Gadsden, while our teams were executing a search warrant, a member of the Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group was struck by gunfire. JSOG is a highly trained, county-wide unit made up of men who run toward danger so the rest of us don’t have to.
I’ve been in close contact with our Police Chief and the Sheriff, and I’m relieved to share that the deputy who was hit is receiving care and is expected to be okay. JSOG’s professionalism and relentless training showed today, and I could not be prouder of them.
Gadsden Fire and EMS teams responded with the same urgency and excellence they show every single day. They took care of our people when it mattered most, and this city is grateful.
The suspect is in custody, the scene is secure, and the investigation is underway. Gadsden stands firmly with the men and women who put themselves on the line to keep this community safe. We will stay tough on crime, and we will never tolerate violence against our first responders.
