A local business owner and mother tragically lost her life Tuesday morning in a crash on East University Drive. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. CST at the intersection with Alfa Court, involving a vehicle and a school bus.

Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton confirmed that 42-year-old Jennifer Cooper was pronounced deceased at 8:09 a.m., succumbing to injuries sustained in the collision. Police reported no additional injuries from the crash.

Cooper was the owner of GiGi’s Cupcakes, with locations in Opelika, Alabama, and Columbus, Georgia. She was also a devoted mother of two and a former science teacher, remembered fondly by her students, friends, and community. Her passing is a significant loss for Auburn and the surrounding areas.

Her body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.

The Auburn Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene, and an investigation into the crash has been launched. “The case remains active while investigators review all evidence and data available,” authorities said.
