Hillsborough Fatal Shooting NJ: Armed Suspect on the Loose as Two Shot; Schools on Lockdown – REPORT

A major law enforcement operation is underway in Hillsborough Township, Somerset County, this Tuesday afternoon after an armed individual reportedly shot two people and fled the scene.

The incident occurred in the area of 649 Route 206 around 2 p.m., according to an alert from the Hillsborough Township Police Department. At that time, the police confirmed that the suspect remains at large and that a full‐scale search is ongoing.

“This is an active police scene,” said Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Frank Roman Jr., indicating that the investigation is very much in progress.

As a safety measure, township schools have been placed in a secure hold—commonly described as “lockdown”—while officers attempt to locate the suspect and ensure the area is safe. Police advised local residents: “Use caution and lock your doors.”

At present, details about the condition of the two shooting victims remain unconfirmed publicly, and no description of the suspect has been released. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.
