A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of 14-year-old London Brown, a freshman at Twinsburg High School, in a wooded area over the weekend.
According to the Twinsburg Police Department, officers were called to Ravenna Road around 11:48 a.m. after family members reported that London had left home with a firearm. A search for the teen was immediately launched. At 12:36 p.m., a caller reported hearing gunshots near White Oaks Drive.
Investigators later found London with a gunshot wound in a wooded area northwest of Twinsburg High School. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
During the investigation, police observed a 15-year-old boy leaving the wooded area near the back of the Twinsburg Community Center. Authorities determined that he “was responsible for the death of the 14-year-old girl.” The teen, a resident of Twinsburg Township, has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. He is scheduled to appear for a pre-trial hearing on December 3.
In a statement, the Twinsburg Police Department extended condolences to London’s family, asking the community to respect their privacy during this difficult time. “We ask for privacy for the family while they deal with this tragedy,” the statement read.
The Twinsburg City School District is offering counseling services for students and staff affected by the incident. In honor of London, students have been encouraged to wear black, her favorite color, to school on Tuesday.
